Young Artists


(Children ages 8-12)

These classes are aimed at providing children with an opportunity to express and create in a comfortable environment. Combining mindfulness with various art modalities, participants will explore, have fun, and build social connections in a community setting. 

Summer Camp 2024

Immerse your child in a safe, creative environment this summer. Young artists will learn, practice, and develop the confidence they need to create art during this summer of art adventure. Each week offers a different class and opportunities to learn about artists while developing skills and techniques that support a weekly theme. Classes run in two separate sessions. Choose Mondays through Fridays from 9 AM – 12 PM or from 1 PM – 4 PM.

Drawing & Painting

In this class, students will learn how to work with and manipulate drawing and painting materials such as charcoal, acrylics, or watercolor. Subjects include still life arrangements, natural elements, and abstracts. Whether using a brush, finger, or pencil, students will learn the techniques of drawing and painting while creating and having fun.

July 8 – July 12

Mixed Media

Mixed media is visual art that combines more than one medium or material. In this class, students will work individually and collaboratively to create art that features paint, collage elements, found objects and fabric. Working with these materials gives students an opportunity to experiment with a tactile variety and create aesthetically pleasing works of art.

July 15 – July 19

Printmaking

Printmaking is the activity of making pictures or designs by transferring them from one surface to another. In this class, students will learn about various types of printmaking, such as monotype and collagraph, and then create printing plates to make their images. Through practice and experimentation, students will create unique visual prints.

July 22 – July 26

Sculpture

Sculpture is the art of making three-dimensional forms. In this class, students will construct sculptural art from paper, found metal objects, cord, wire, and other materials. Working individually or with a partner, students are sure to enjoy making 3-D art.

July 29 – August 2

Mindful Artmaking

In this class, students will learn about art and mindfulness and their ability to help us feel good. Research has shown that mindfulness and art improve the well-being of the individual, no matter their age. Each day students will focus on the present moment while responding to various natural objects and concepts through their senses. They will use charcoal, paint, paper, and other materials to express themselves in a safe and supportive environment, learning that healthy ways of expression can be fun, exciting, and calming.

August 5 – August 9

Waggle Words

Accordion books have a full history in many parts of Asia. Invented to maintain very long scrolls, this book style is composed of a continuous folded sheet of paper. Perfect for presenting one-line poems or phrases, this book can be kept closed or expanded. In this 3-hour workshop, participants will:


  • Write a one-line poem based on a prompt
  • Design and construct an accordion book
  • Write their own poem through their book
  • Present and share their books, contributing to a community of Waggle Words

Pre-College Portfolio Prep


(High School Students ages 15-18)

Instruction is designed to develop or strengthen a comprehensive and well-rounded portfolio in preparation for applying to competitive art programs.
